Peer Review
PEER-REVIEW POLICY
All contributions that are selected for peer-review are sent to at least one, but usually two or more, independent reviewers. To save time for authors and peer-reviewers, only those papers that seem most likely to meet our editorial criteria are sent for formal review. Those papers judged by the editors to be of insufficient general interest or otherwise inappropriate are rejected promptly without external review. The editors then make a decision based on the reviewers' advice, from among several possibilities:
Accept, with or without editorial revisions. Invite the authors to revise their manuscript to address specific concerns before a final decision is reached.
Reject, but indicate to the authors that further work might justify a resubmission.
Reject outright, typically on grounds of specialist interest, lack of novelty, insufficient conceptual advance or major technical and/or interpretational problems.
Anonymity
We do not release reviewers' identities to authors, except when reviewers specifically ask to be identified. Unless they feel strongly, however, we prefer that reviewers should remain anonymous throughout the review process and beyond. We ask reviewers not to identify themselves to authors without the editor's knowledge. If they wish to reveal their identities while the manuscript is under consideration, this should be done via the editor, or if this is not practicable, we ask authors to inform the editor as soon as possible after the reviewer has revealed his or her identity to the author. We deplore any attempt by authors to confront reviewers or determine their identities. Our own policy is to neither confirm nor deny any speculation about reviewers' identities, and we encourage reviewers to adopt a similar policy.
Selecting peer reviewers
Reviewer selection is critical to the publication process, and we base our choice on many factors, including expertise, reputation, and specific recommendations.
Anti-Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism includes duplicate publication of an author’s own work, in whole or in part, without proper citation, as well as misrepresenting others’ ideas, words, data, figures, or creative expressions as one’s own. It also includes self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, and inappropriate paraphrasing.
The Journal of Medical and Biomedical Sciences (JMABS) follows a strict anti-plagiarism policy to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo plagiarism screening using reputable and commercially available plagiarism detection software prior to peer review.
Based on the extent of similarity detected:
-
Minor overlap (e.g., methods description or properly cited text) may require revision and clarification from the authors.
-
Moderate similarity may lead to mandatory revision, proper citation, or resubmission.
-
Serious plagiarism, including unattributed copying, duplicate publication, or data manipulation, will result in immediate rejection of the manuscript.
If plagiarism or unethical publication practices are detected after publication, JMABS will conduct a formal investigation in accordance with international publication ethics guidelines. If misconduct is confirmed, the journal will:
-
Retract the published article,
-
Publish a formal retraction notice,
-
Notify the authors’ affiliated institutions and funding agencies where appropriate.
JMABS is committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record and upholding transparent and ethical publishing practices.
